Best time to visit in Istanbul

Istanbul is a huge area with different sub-climates in the same city. The coastal areas experience a typical Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers – making the beaches of Marmara popular for its resort destinations. As you travel further east, the climate becomes more extreme with very high, scorching temperatures during summer season. It is humid and rains scarcely between July and August. Winter months are cold and snowy at times but it is also less crowded and cheaper during this time. Plus, regular doses of tea around corners help in keeping you warm and on your toes. Spring and autumn from April to May and September to mid-November respectively are characterized by clear skies and pleasant weather, making it the ideal tourist season. These months are perfect to explore the city interiors on foot and using public transport or even bikes. Guided Street art tours and food walks are popular during this season.
