Memorial Chorten

The Thimphu Chorten, also known as the Thimphu Memorial Stupa, is a stupa (Dzongkha chöten, cheten) in Thimphu, Bhutan,  Located in the heart of Thimphu, Bhutan's capital city, on Doeboom Lam near the major roundabout and Indian military hospital in the city's southern-central area. Chorten literally translates to "Seat of Faith," and Buddhists refer to such structures as the "Mind of Buddha." With its beautiful murals and detailed sculptures, the Chorten is an outstanding example of Buddhist architecture and art. The National Memorial Chorten is dedicated to World Peace and was built in honour of Bhutan's third Druk Gyalpo (Head of Kingdom). The Stupa was first constructed in 1974 and underwent a major refurbishment in 2008. The Chorten is also known as Bhutan's "most visible religious building."
