Best time to visit in Rajasthan

Every season in Rajasthan paints the landscape in a different light. Picking the right time to visit is the first step to a great trip. To find the best time to visit Rajasthan, consider the experience you are dreaming of.

Summer Season – April to June

The summer months in Rajasthan are for the true adventurer. While summers bring intense heat with temperatures exceeding 45°C, this season offers unique desert experiences and fewer crowds at popular attractions. The heat can be intense, especially in areas near the Thar Desert, making it tough for both locals and visitors. However, hill stations like Mount Abu and cooler spots like Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh, offer more pleasant weather and are popular during this season. Evenings and early mornings are the best times to explore the desert and experience its true charm.

This is the best time for wildlife sightings in places like Ranthambore National Park, as animals gather near the waterholes. For a cool escape, head to the only hill station in Rajasthan – Mount Abu. You will also find minimal crowds and lowest prices.

If you are sensitive to extreme heat, summer may not be the right time to visit Rajasthan. But if you do plan a trip during this season, pack wisely - bring sunscreen, light cotton clothes, and full-sleeved outfits to protect your skin from sunburn. Keeping yourself cool and safe makes your journey more comfortable.

Summer is the best time for dedicated wildlife photographers and travellers looking for a budget-friendly trip.

Monsoon Season – July to September

The monsoon season is from July to September. However, rainfall remains moderate in this shoulder season. Rajasthan gets most of its rain from the Western Disturbances and South-West Monsoon. The Aravalli Hills run across the state and split it into two parts. Because of the way these hills are positioned, the northwestern side stays quite dry and sandy, while the southeastern side gets more rain and has greener land. Rainfall during the monsoon is usually between 100 to 165 mm.

Often overlooked, the monsoon season reveals a side of Rajasthan that is lush, green, and incredibly romantic. Rain clears the dust and brings new life to the dry land. If you visit Rajasthan during the rainy season, you will see a fresh and beautiful side of the state - green fields, rainbows, and peacocks dancing in the rain.

The Aravalli hills turn lush and green, and Udaipur lakes fill up and sparkle under the rain, creating a beautiful monsoon scene. You will see fewer crowds and find excellent hotel deals. It is a peaceful time to explore cities and enjoy the dramatic, cloud-filled skies. Monsoon is the perfect season for nature lovers, couples seeking a romantic getaway, and budget-savvy travellers who want to see a unique side of Rajasthan.

Winter Season – October to March

This is, without a doubt, the most popular and best time for Rajasthan tour packages. While other parts of India may get very cold, Rajasthan enjoys pleasant weather with temperatures from 10°C and 25°C. Days are sunny and comfortable, while nights can get a bit chilly. Cool and pleasant weather lets you enjoy Rajasthan’s forts, palaces, and desert views without discomfort.

Enjoy comfortable, sun-drenched days perfect for sightseeing at Jaipur's Amer Fort or strolling through Udaipur's lake-side paths. One more reason why winter is the perfect season to visit is because of the many colourful fairs and festivals held during this time. Some of the most famous events, like the Jaipur Literature Festival, Udaipur World Music Festival, Camel Fair, and Pushkar Fair are in the winter months.

Winter is ideal for all types of travellers. The weather is perfect for families, couples, and senior citizens. This is the best time to enjoy local culture and take great photos.
